Whataburger got its start in Texas, but now it’s located in 10 states throughout the southern part of the U.S., and it’s growing fast. This is due in large part to its delicious burgers, enough to make one exclaim, “wow, what a burger!” (get the play on words?). While the menu items are tantalizing, part of what makes Whataburger such a great experience for restaurant goers is the Whataburger secret menu. There are many different popular Whataburger orders you won’t find listed on the restaurant’s standard menu. Employees of the restaurant are taught to be accommodating of those requests.

Official secret menu vs. customer creations?

Many of the items on the secret menu are variations of other menu items. Or, they’re items that went viral and thus, have almost become standard menu items across Whataburger locations themselves. With a few of the most popular Whataburger secret menu items, you can expect that most workers will know what you’re talking about and be able to make the item without instruction. There are other variants, though, that will likely need a little bit of explanation on your part.

The most popular Whataburger secret menu items

What are some examples of popular Whataburger secret menu items? Here’s a look at a few of the most common and most popular, and what you can expect when you order them:

  • Honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich: This is far and away the most popular item on Whataburger’s secret menu. It’s an internet favorite, with online campaigns to get it added to the main menu. This is one item that most Whataburger employees are aware of. If you find yourself needing to explain it, it’s a regular chicken strip sandwich but with barbecue sauce.
  • The Whataburger Hulk: The other most popular Whataburger secret menu item, the Whataburger Hulk gets its name from its green color. Whataburger employees are generally aware of this item and are willing to make it for customers. It involves filling a cup about a quarter full with Powerade, then topping off the rest with Vault soda.
  • Double-Double: While the Double-Double is a burger that’s trademarked by In-N-Out, Whataburger employees are quite aware of the item and will make it for customers. The name refers to the structure of the burger—two beef patties with two layers of cheese.
  • Ranchero BOB: This is the Breakfast on a Bun with sausage or bacon, but with a bit of south of the border flavor added to it. The Ranchero version will feature jalapenos in the scrambled egg, as well as green or red picante sauce. This item isn’t as common as the three others on this list, so you might need to provide instruction. It’s most certainly delicious!

Beyond these items, there are plenty of options to customize, especially with the Whataburger itself. Feel free to experiment by adding toppings or combining menu items.

How to order from the hidden menu

Any time you try ordering something from the Whataburger secret menu, ask the employee what it is before ordering. They may well be aware of the Whataburger Hulk or the Honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich due to their popularity, but you should never just assume that everyone is fully familiar with the secret menu.

If they’re not aware of the specific item you ordered, provide them with instructions on how to make it. You might even try to make your own custom item that could go viral itself!
