Global fast food chains reflect both cultural differences depending on the country they reside in, and social differences, given the different portion sizes and advertising they choose to show. While all these fast food chains are similar across the board, some aspects could not be more different. Here are some of the primary differences between the same fast food chains in the U.S. and the U.K. 

Drink sizes

Some found that in the U.S., there was an 89% increase in small and large drink sizes. A small size at McDonald’s is 250 ml in the U.K., 473 ml in the U.S. In comparison, a large is 500 ml in the U.K., 946 ml in the U.S. Meanwhile, the medium drink size at McDonald’s reflected a 55% increase between the U.K. and U.S. The U.K. medium was 400 ml, and the U.S> medium was 621 ml.

Chicken nuggets 

The McDonald’s chicken nugget sizes also proved to be much larger in the U.S. than in the U.S. It was found that the U.K. chicken nugget options at McDonald were either a 6-piece, 9-piece or 20-piece. Meanwhile, the chicken nugget options in the U.S. McDonald’s come in five sizes – 4-piece, 6-piece, 10-piece, 20-piece and 40-piece.

Fries

Similarly, the large order of fries at McDonalds in the U.S. was double the U.K.’s largest size. a large order of fries from McDonald’s in the U.S. is 46% larger than in the U.K. It is 125 g in the U.K., and increases to 190 g in the U.S. In comparison to American KFC, you can get an order of large fries – 300 g, or 100% bigger than the British large fries.

Pizza

At Domino’s, the largest pizza size in the U.S. is 2.5 inches larger than the largest pizza size in the U.K. The U.K. Domino’s large boasts 13.5 inches, while the U.S. Domino’s extra large comes in at 16 inches. This ultimately comes out to 30% more pizza in the U.S.
